Cabin Fever

I wonder if others find this time of year as trying as I do?  It’s the time of year when:

  • Snow that should have disappeared long ago still covers the yard.
  • The Leafs confirm once again that they will not bring home the Stanley cup this year.
  • At least half of our family is sick, which is more tiring than I would have believed.  If it’s an adult who’s sick, then the other parent has all of the work of looking after the two kids while keeping the house afloat and playing nurse.  If it’s a kid who’s sick, then that requires a whole new level of energy to cope with.  We are feeling a bit sorry for ourselves.
  • The piles of marking on my desk, like the snowbanks outside, are not getting any smaller, no matter how often I check.  Same with my to-do list.

But there is hope.  I saw a robin yesterday.  Today I found a square foot of the flower garden that had seen enough sun to erase the snow covering it, and green shoots are bravely pushing their way up.  Spring must be on its way.

Maybe I’ll see that pile of marking disappear after all.
