Top 5 Boston Bruins of My Time

My students enjoy the odd random digression, especially when it is hockey related. When I talk about hockey, I talk about the storied Boston Bruins. Well, because I was not yet born the last time the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup, my personal list of favourite Beantown hockey players does not include the likes of Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito. Instead, the two rosters that I’ve known to be most worthy of legendary status include the skaters of 18 years ago, and the team currently leading the Sabres in the 3rd period at the TD Banknorth Garden. Therefore my all-time favourite Bruins are:

  1. Andy Moog
  2. Cam Neely
  3. Milan Lucic
  4. Raymond Bourque
  5. Dennis Wideman

This might just be your year! I’ve jumped on the bandwagon and would love to see them go all the way.

I came across this short interview with Dennis Wideman on nhl.com today and thought you might be interested:

Geoff, Thanks for jumping on the bandwagon. It’s good to have you here. Having been on the Bruins bandwagon for a very long time, I should warn you, it can be a bumpy ride at times.

Also, thanks for the link to the interview with Dennis Wideman. I believe that he’s absolutely right: on the streets of Elmira and of Hawkesville, we have been competing for the Stanley Cup for a long time, haven’t we?

  3. Geoff Martin says:

I’ve been a Leaf fan all my life, so you don’t have to warn me about bumpy rides– that’s all I know!

And as for the Stanley Cup, I think every hockey trophy I’ve ever won has just been a stand-in for the biggest prize of all. Even here in Korea, at 25 years of age, I’m competing for the DCIHL Cup, but in my mind I’m chasing after Lord Stanley’s Mug.
